DUE TO LACK OF INTEREST, THE 3900' FESTIVAL HAS BEEN CANCELED. REFUNDS WILL BE ISSUED STARTING JUNE 20, 2008.
2007 1st Annual 3900 Ft Festival Lineup -
Small Sails
- “It's hard to describe the sound and vibe that the band Small Sails
puts out there. The best way to describe it would be somewhere between
warm instrumentals, and floating in the breeze along the ocean.
The instrumental band out of Portland, OR add a touch of chants and
hums for good measure, which make for an interesting project that
performs over 100 shows a year.”

The Shaky Hands -
This Portland band’s debut should satisfy those flummoxed and/or
disappointed by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah’s sophomore slumper. Both
groups capture early R.E.M.’s breezy jangle and give it a twisted
sideways glance, but the Shaky Hands reduce the bark and play up the
loose-limbed folk vibe… Refreshingly uncluttered tunes like “The
Sleepless” and “We Will Rise” bring a relaxed, back-porch quality to
typically uptight indie-rock" - Josh Modell, SPIN
Horse Feathers -
"Justin Ringle almost seems designed to curry comparisons with a few
near-universally lionized vocalists, pitched neatly between Iron &
Wine's Sam Beam and departed icon Nick Drake (albeit the Drake of
“Know” as opposed to “Pink Moon”). Given the music that Ringle and
Peter Broderick make, sparse yet melodious acoustic idylls that evoke
ambling along with a friend through the last warm days before autumn.."
Review by Ian Mathers for stylusmagazine.com
Hillstomp - "Portland
Oregon junkbox blues duo HILLSTOMP is infamous for digging through the
dumps and forgotten backwoods of American music, recycling traditional
elements into a refreshing and distinctive brand of do-it-yourself hill
country blues stomp. North Mississippi trance blues, a bit of
Appalachia, and a dash of punkabilly come clanging and tumbling from
assorted buckets, cans and BBQ lids, all drenched in rambunctious slide
guitar. Somehow it works."
Loch Lomond - “I'm
not even sure exactly how to go about describing the music of Loch
Lomond, an 8 piece band out of Portland, Oregon fronted by Ritchie
Young. Apparently, the band started as a solo recording project of
sorts for Young back in 2003, but over the past few years it's grown
into its much larger incarnation, an ensemble complete with strings,
keys, guitars, drums, and a few other things. Imagine Neutral Milk
Hotel crashing into Sufjan Stevens and you'll almost get the idea. -

The Crosswalks
- Another addition to Portland's flourishing indie-pop scene, the
Crosswalks released their first full-length record earlier this year,
an album as fun as it is smart.

Power of County
-
"Power of County steers a Spartan, hell-for-leather, old-time
pick-a-thon beyond irony and pretense. With acoustic guitars, Matthew
Stark's handmade banjo, and the occasional female vocalist, the County
boys wed garage-band ferocity to a true backwoods authenticity."
The Builders and The Butchers
- “Though the band describes itself as a blues and gospel ensemble, its
music comes off more like rock 'n' roll invented during the Great
Depression: The Builders' shows are more like revivals than concerts,
with audience members clapping, stomping, playing band-distributed
tambourines, washboards and Little Tikes tom-toms and, of course,
singing along.” Willamette Week
No Go Know
- “No Go Know has a restless spirit, manifesting itself in exploratory
musical passages, supple rhythms and a disregard for traditional pop
song formats.” Performer Magazine, June 2007
Oh! Captain - "Oh!
Captain will look you in the eye and shake hands with your blood. We’ll
steal your heart while your mind isn’t looking. If it comes searching,
we’ll fatten it up and feed it to the tigers. Your heart wont miss it.
We will bounce, stomp, jab, croon and howl in the center of your skull
and knock you to the ground with love. We’ll feed you pig meat, mangos
and firewater and hold your hair if you’re sick. We’ll put hooks in
your ears and haul you to your feet. You’ll dance with us and we’ll
laugh uncontrollably,
we’re laughing with you."
The Young Immortals -
"I found it easy to like the band; they seem sure of who they are and
what they want to do. They are not attempting to create a pretentious,
esoteric, inaccessible artistic statement through music - instead, they
are creating back to basics rock'n'roll. While some other artists might
look down on them for that, it is this very quality which has likely
found them success. The Immortals have created a plan to gain followers
by writing good, catchy pop songs, always performing with passion, and
being game - even excited - to talk with their fans." - Vancouver Voice
Advisory
- Advisory is creating music for bombs. a grating guitar and vocal.
bass and drums of feeling and rythym. an ethereal keyboad defining
soul. a meditation on survival and chaos.
Oh Captain, My Captain -
"Over a year in the making "RECKLESSLY WE SPLIT THE SEA" sets a whole
new precedent of fine rock and roll for OCMC. Big guitars over
beautiful vocal melodies and tight, loud and near perfect rythm
section, this album will not dissapoint. Ten epic tales of prize
fighters, travelers, scoundrels, cheaters and liars, this record is
truly like no other. Release is set for Halloween 2007!!"
Mantis
- Mantis’ unique and tasteful style would best be described as Trip
Hop/
Lounge/House. With ranging tempos and changing moods, this sonic wizard
never ceases to amaze! Sometimes you'll want to dance, sometimes you'll
just want to sit back and enjoy!
Caguama
- Mexican folk rock with a little punk, Caguama is inspired by bands
like DeVotcka and Gogol Bordello. Whether you can understand Spanish or
not, Caguama makes for an entertaining show.
Nick Caceres
- "Winning the audience hands down, this is a singer-songwriter to
watch. Images harkening to the young Phil Ochs and a voice that could
claim a gene from Tim Buckley, he's coming out from under the Muse's
wing and stands ready to deliver. Young poet, old soul with a heart
right smack in the middle of a gifted voice, this one's ready to take
off. We'll be watching the sky..." Kate Power Artichoke Music- (In
review performance with Pete Krebs).
Chickweed
- Drawing on each member’s strengths, Chickweed now blends choice
traditional tunes with new “old” originals. Bringing the late night
camp fire jam feeling to every audience they now play for has been the
goal of this exciting and raucous trio of musicians. The humorous and
entertaining nature of their personalities is contagious.
The Skinnyz
- The Skinnyz are an inventive 4 piece post-rock band comprised of
members of Nimbus and Ashbury Park. Their original compositions are
layered with effects and looping, with dual guitar work to drive them.
Paper Brain
- Portland based trio brings a shoegaze feel to the PDX Pop scene.
Excellent hooks are out of the ordinary for this self-proclaimed
minimalist rock band.
Clampitt, Gaddis and Buck
- Like a deer bounding from a lonely stand of pine, the spare string
arrangements and three-part harmonies of Clampitt, Gaddis and Buck ooze
stark and naturalistic beauty. Not since oft-missed Old Time
hellraisers the Dickel Brothers has the Portland underground-rock scene
harbored as talented a group of folk musicians as this Americana trio.
Truth through simplicity is their aim. And their aim is good.
- Sam Dodge Soule | WW
Excellent Gentlemen - A neo-soul groove quartet with synth-driven bass lines, tight R&B harmonies, and dual Fender Rhodes. Like liquid on the dance floor, Excellent Gentlemen flow through the soul with groove-oriented original music.
